ANTEATERS: The men’s team lost two nail-biters, while the women spilt their match-ups.

RIVAL: Irvine defeated Long Beach State 86-76 on Saturday night in front of a huge Homecoming crowd.

The win against Long Beach State was hands down the best win of the year, and hopefully a win that UC Irvine can use to carry momentum forward. After a tough stretch of losing six out of seven, UCI is all of a sudden on a nifty three-game winning streak.

EMIL: The senior wing player isn’t a star and didn’t come to UCI on a scholarship, but he will leave with pride.

SPLIT: The ’Eaters lost to the No.1 Trojans but rebounded in a dramatic five-set win against the Waves.

TATTOOS: Senior captain Darren Moore has stepped his game up this season while garnering attention for his extravagant body art.

STUMBLES: After accumulating a 7-0 home record, the Anteaters suffered two straight losses at UCI.

Coach Molly Goodenbour stood in front of her women’s basketball team last spring for their annual end of the season banquet with an even-keel demeanor at the Bren Events Center. In front of a podium, she spoke of opportunities missed in a 9-21 season, the graduating seniors who were going to be missed and a sense of urgency to not miss the chance to win with the eventual expiration of the eligibility of, Jade Smith-Williams and Mikah Maly-Karros impending. After two seasons at the helm, Goodenbour had registered an abysmal 16-44 record, but had yet to witness one of her recruiting classes graduate.

Rivalries exist in every place imaginable: between siblings, friends and co-workers. However, some of the best rivalries can be found in sports.
