No. 5 UCI’s Men’s Volleyball team lost 2-3 to No.14 UCSD Tritons in a five set heartbreaker (20-25, 25-22, 26-28, 25-16, 12-15) in the first match of the Big West Conference play last on Saturday, Feb.15.
The No. 5 seed UCI Men’s Volleyball team defeated No. 13 seed Concordia University Irvine Eagles by a score of 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 26-28, 25-23) at the Bren Events Center on Jan. 30.
No. 5 seed UCI Men’s Volleyball team was defeated by No. 2 seed Brigham Young University Cougars in a non-conference match with a score of 1-3 (17-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-25) at the Bren Events Center on Jan. 22.
No. 8 UCI Men’s Volleyball ((2-1), (0-0)) defeated No. 11 Loyola Chicago ((1-3), (0-0)) in their second home game of the season on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Bren Events Center. UCI won with three consecutive sets — two, three and four.
The UCI women’s volleyball team faced off against the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa last Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Bren Events Center where Irvine was swept in three straight sets (25-27, 17-25, 21-25). Their first match-up of the season took place on Oct. 4 in Honolulu, Hawai’i and the Anteaters returned home victorious with a 3-2 win over the Rainbow Wahine, their first in franchise history. UCI were unable to repeat this success this last Saturday and the Anteaters are now 4-16 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Despite freshman Onye Ofoegbu's (13) career high with 17 kills and the team’s strong start in the first set, the UC Irvine women’s volleyball team ultimately took a loss against the Cal State Fullerton Titans with a final 3-1 score (19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 30-28) this past Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Bren Events Center.
No. 4 ranked UCI men’s volleyball returned to the Bren to face USC for the first time since the Trojan’s handed them their second loss of the year. The ‘Eaters were able to avenge their loss to the Trojans Saturday night.
After five sets of high-adrenaline, national championship tournament volleyball, the Anteaters lost to last year’s national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in the first round of the 2018 NCAA tournament. (19-25) (25-22) (23-25) (25-22) (14-16)
