What are Facebook or social media sites in general? Some call them voracious, black holes in which to waste precious time; others deem them indispensable links between friends and loved ones. But in the end, they’re just Web sites, right?

Back in the days of cassette tapes and Walkman personal stereos, a single genre of music dominated our FM radio waves. It was called simply “pop music” back then, but all you need to call it today is “‘90s pop” and everyone knows exactly who and what you’re talking about: The Backstreet Boys. ‘N Sync. Christina Aguilera. Britney Spears. If you didn’t know all the lyrics to “Baby One More Time,” then you must have been living in a cave.

I met my girlfriend in my dorm during my freshman year and we really hit it off. The next year we ended up being in the same apartment complex (we don’t live in the same apartment, just the complex) and have been living there for the past quarter.

When I was ten I moved from the cloudy skies of Canada to the sunny beaches of California. At first I was appalled by the snowless winters of Los Angeles, the people wearing thick jackets when it was only 12 degrees Celsius (54 degrees Fahrenheit), and the palm trees covered in Christmas lights, as if they were determined to hang onto the summer heat.

Howard is not tall, or handsome, or daunting. He is small and delicate, his every intricacy exposed. He is a thin white and gray skeleton flecked with soft, dark strips that hang like flesh off his reptilian physique. He is cold to the touch. Howard directs, instructs, and heals. I’m a young mom who used to work from home. Recently, I’ve taken a pay cut and my husband’s job cut his hours down. My boyfriend has been bugging me about going on birth control so he can stop wearing condoms when we have sex. He says that every time he puts a condom on it turns him off.
