In response to the recent concerns regarding the allegedly dangerous amounts of asbestos discovered in Rowland Hall during construction, James S. Nowick, Department of Chemistry chair, has indicated that the building is and has been safe throughout construction.
UCI celebrated its third annual Lunar New Year celebration, welcoming the year of the pig, on Jan. 28 at the Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway Plaza.
The SKY Campus Happiness Program occurred in the Student Center at UCI from Jan. 24-27. Hosted by the Sky Meditation Club at UCI, the immersive 16-hour event was “an innovative and experiential life-skills training and self-development program for college students,” according to the program’s scholarship application.
Women in Leadership, an organization at UCI dedicated to providing more opportunities for women pursuing leadership careers in business, finance, healthcare, and public health, was established by Amy Hu in 2015. Hu’s goal was to connect and promote leadership opportunities among women, however anyone is welcome.

ASUCI Senate convened on Jan. 22 to pass legislation in support of budget reallocation for the Commitment to a Better Education Scholarship and to approve the appointment of Rodrigo Quintas as the at-large Senator for the spring 2019 quarter. All legislations are pending final review as per the ASUCI By-Laws.
