Men’s Water Polo
No.7 UC Irvine Men’s Water Polo team (11-5, 1-1) fell to the No.5 ranked Pacific (15-2, 2-0) in a MPSF conference showdown on Saturday to a score of 11-10. Seven different ‘Eaters scored in the match with junior Kyle Trush, senior Larson Pfeil, and sophomore Matt Skinner with two goals a piece. Junior Ben Stevenson led the way for the Tigers with his four goal performance negating the upset by UCI. A three goal swing by Pacific in the closing four minutes gave the Tigers the edge over the Anteaters, handing them their first conference loss of the season. The Anteaters’ conference road trip continued as they faced No.3 Cal (15-3, 1-0) in Berkeley Sunday afternoon. The Bears handed Irvine their sixth overall loss on the season by a score of 12-10. The Anteaters will return to the Anteater Aquatics Complex to host the No.1 ranked UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 25, after the Alumni Game on Saturday.
Women’s Volleyball
UCI women’s volleyball paid a visit to No.8 Hawaii Saturday night and fell in four sets (25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24). UCI recorded one less block than the best blocking team in the nation, 18-17. The Anteaters would take the Rainbow Wahine to sudden death in the fourth set before being edged from a block from Hawaii’s Emily Maglio.
The ‘Eaters will continue their conference road trip with games against Cal State Fullerton, on Oct. 23, and UC Riverside, on Oct. 24.
Men’s Cross Country
The UC Irvine Men’s Cross Country team earned a fourth place finish at the Highlander Invitational Saturday at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. Junior Isaiah Thompson, 3rd place in 17:15.01, and freshman Branden Randall, 9th place in 18:11.92, led the way for the ‘Eaters by finishing in the top-10 of the meet.
‘Eaters who also finished in the top-50 in the 6,000 meter competition were junior Nolan Del Valle, finishing 24th in 18:40.33, junior David Aguilar, finishing 31st in 18:47.28, sophomore Izzak Mireles, finishing 35th in 18:53.38, freshman Jonathan Rodriguez, finishing 36th in 18:54.22, and freshman Andrew Graciano finishing 49th in 19:18.00.
UCI will return to Riverside to compete in the Big West Conference Championships on Oct. 31.
Women’s Cross Country
The UCI women’s cross country team placed eighth at the Highlander Invitational on Sunday as junior Aliya Shah finished 20th in 18:29.49 over the 5,000 meter course.
Anteaters who placed in the top 50 were junior Pearl Law, placing 30th in 18:42.59, freshman Lisa Vasquez, placing 34th in 18:46.46, senior Courtney Sharar, placing 43rd in 19:03.61, junior Hannah Ruby, placing 44th in 19:04.45, freshman Hallie Pullum, placing 45th in 19:06.82, and freshman Megan Mirkhanian, placing 47th in 19:07.29.
The ‘Eaters will be back in Riverside for the Big West Conference Championships on Oct. 31.
