I was in the sixth grade and my teacher had just decided that she wanted to read a book to our class. Her choice, “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster, ended up changing my life, the way I looked at books and how words could be used.
“Hi! Have you met Ted?”
A simple introductory greeting is all it takes to trigger the vicious cycle of “friend-poaching,” or stealing friends away from others. Before you know it, Ted will soon be scooped up by Alex, to whom you had just introduced Ted to, and before you can say, “Let’s grab a drink!” Ted and Alex will be bonding like there’s no tomorrow and you’ll be shoved to the side like an unwanted soggy sandwich.
My first job was a memorable one. Six Flags Magic Mountain is probably among the most exciting ways to earn a paycheck. Shouting kids, screaming adults, terrifying roller coasters and some of the best co-workers a person could ask for.
On Feb. 26, the Taiwanese American Organization (TAO) hosted the second annual Lantern Festival and Night Market in celebration of Lunar New Year, the year of the rabbit. TAO is an organization that educates students about Taiwanese culture through social and cultural activities such as this event.
