More Time for Busy

Six demanding UC Irvine organizations, 16-plus units and co-founding a Web site for Bruno is nothing. Some might call it overly ambitious, while others a little absurd. But Bruno doesn’t care; he only wishes he could do more.

Friends: They’ll Be There For You, When the Rain Starts to Pour

Why do we love Ross, Joey, Chandler, Monica, Rachel and Phoebe so much? The answer is because all of them remind us of our own group of friends.

Steampunks: Always Tinkering With Their Identity

Once upon a time, following a civilized meeting over tea with some lovely young gentlemen, one of my fellow steampunks concluded that “A steampunk is someone who argues about what steampunk is.”

‘Eater Eats Under $9

You’re probably raising your eyebrows, wondering how Japanese curry made the cut. Despite misconceptions made about the mystic sounding curry, Japanese curry is one of the most underrated dishes that people have allowed to fly under the radar. Some people love it, others hate it, but the bottom line is this dish is definitely something you must try once with an open mind.

Mines, Mountain Lions and More at Fremont Canyon

This week I went on a 10.5-mile hike with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy to the Tecate Cypress forest in Fremont Canyon, which is located behind Irvine Regional Park and runs along the border of Chino Hills State Park. The canyon can be accessed through Irvine Regional Park, but is only open through programs with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy.

I Left My Heart in Paris

With summer bliss only a few weeks away, hundreds of UC Irvine students are preparing to embark on one of the campus’ featured study abroad programs. The Center for International Education (CIE) is the first pit stop for Anteaters eager to spend a quarter or more in foreign universities in countries as diverse as Singapore, Ghana and Turkey. With an estimated 1,000 students traveling abroad every year, the appeal to earn units while on an exotic excursion is ever growing.

Embrace the Simplicity

When traveling to another state or country, travelers feel a little uneasy when contemplating a hostel as potential accommodations. Although theatrically entertaining, the fictional image of hostels cannot be more wrong. In fact, these budget-friendly hostels have become widely popular throughout the world not only with backpackers, but also college students and families.

Trek No Further: Why We Don’t Just Need Sweet CGI to Keep Us Happy

So, I just saw “Star Trek” on IMAX for the first time. Chills. I’ve seen a total of maybe three episodes of the show over my lifetime so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Personal Style 2.0: Fashion Blogs that Trump the Age-Old Magazine

As much as I love fashion magazines, I often find myself getting frustrated with their content. Photo spreads might as well be pages of a catalog that only sell clothes that a college student can’t afford to dry clean, let alone afford to wear.

UCI Alumnus: Screenwriter Grant Nieporte Knows Will Smith

Ever wonder what it’s like to work with Will Smith? Or maybe if he believes in “getting jiggy with it, na na na na na na na nana” in between shots? How about Rosario Dawson? Ever wonder if in her downtime she asks strangers if they can “light her candle” before she heads over to the Cat Scratch Club? While he might not give away the song and dance of Smith and Dawson, UC Irvine Alumnus Grant Nieporte knows them on a deeper level.
