The body of a man was found around 7:40 p.m. last night, April 15. According to an email from Chief of UCI Police Department, Paul Henisey, through the office of Vice Chancellor of Administration and Business Services, Wendell C. Brase, the body was discovered by two hikers in the brush near the campus observatory at California Avenue and Gabrielino Drive. The email noted that based on observations and evidence at the scene, the cause of death appeared to be suicide. According to a cbs2 report, authorities had been attempting to link the body with the disappearance of 23-year-old Mahesh Mahadevan, a mechanical engineering graduate student who lives in Palo Verde housing. Mahadevan was last seen last Saturday morning, April 10, 2010. Mahadevan is a graduate student from India. An email from Brase’s office was sent to the UCI community yesterday, April 15 at 11:18 am noting Mahadevan’s disappearance and asked the UCI community for any information. At around 8:30 tonight, a message from one of Mahadevan’s friends confirmed that the autopsy came in and the body was indeed him.
