On the evening of March 7, 2003, I led my wife out the front door of our small three-bedroom home, up our slightly sloped driveway and into the middle of two empty, intersecting streets that met into a cross at our driveway. The asphalt beneath my toes was cool and jagged. The distant street lamps were blown out, and the twinkling stars that shone through the streaking clouds provided the only light. The air was crisp and the night was quiet, like the stillness of an early morning pond.

This week, I had originally planned on digging into an analysis of attraction; however, some recent beauty-centric events —namely a few Ralph Lauren photo fiascos — have gotten me a little side-tracked. So, attraction will just have to sit on the back burner this time around.

Beep. Beep. Beep. I toss and turn in my bed and see the alarm flashing the numbers 7:40 a.m. in the dark. Geez, am I late already?! Matt McGiney is the drummer for the hit punk-rap band Gym Class Heroes, which made its splash on the pop charts with “Cupid’s Chokehold.” After going gold with their first album, Gym Class came back with “The Quilt.” The album features the hit song “Cookie Jar,” with artist The Dream. The band, which came from small town Geneva, NY, began when McGiney and MC Travis McCoy met in gym class. They will rock the stage at Shocktoberfest alongside Shwayze. McGiney caught up with the New University on the road from Atlanta to Illinois.

At this very moment on Post-it notes across campus, people are making to-do lists, from chores like vacuuming, taking out the trash and reminders to finally catch up on reading for class. On my desk is a list reminding me to do laundry, buy coffee creamer and study for multiple upcoming exams. It can be overwhelming to see all of the tasks you must complete on a neon green note, so how would you feel about a to-do list with 101 things on it?

Breakfast is usually the one meal of the day that nobody wants to bother spending time to prepare. And yet it’s the most important meal of the day. Why? Because your body has gone through 7-8 hours without any source of nutrition or energy, so you need that meal when you wake up to turn into energy for the morning. Otherwise, you can count on falling asleep during German 150.

Who says men don’t care about fashion? This fall, the male fashion scene is turning to dark rich colors like blacks, deep reds, and navy as seen at Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, Richard Chai, and at many other fashion labels. These colors are accompanied by bold block colors paired with darker colors to give a pop twist for the fall and winter seasons as displayed at Gucci, Etro, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Lonely, abandoned, untouched. Due to cutbacks in janitorial staff, more and more trash cans all over campus are left to their own devices....
