Sexual Assault Month: Take Back the Lies

Haven't you heard? April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This month, UC Irvine's Campus Assault Resources and Education Program (CARE) is sponsoring events such as The Clothesline Project, Denim Day USA and has invited groups like "Take Back the Night" and "One in Four" to raise awareness through a candlelight vigil. CARE hopes to combat sexual assault on our campus and others. Many UCI students have undoubtedly received the mass e-mail inviting concerned citizens to participate.

Wayzgoose: Getting Better With Age

ASUCI kicked off its annual Wayzgoose Medieval Faire in Aldrich Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday. In collaboration with Celebrate UCI, Wayzgoose is an opportunity for incoming freshmen to get a taste of the many extracurricular activities the campus has to offer. The park remained packed throughout the day, which couldn't have been better for a festival as there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

Throw Out the Game Cartridges and Embrace the Digital Age

Digital distribution has been detrimental to media like films and music that rely on DVDs and album releases to generate extra income for the studios. However, the opposite is true for video games in that avoiding brick-and-mortar retail outlets actually cuts costs for developers. A new trend is emerging in the gaming industry toward titles produced exclusively for digital distribution.

UC Student Regents

In less than three months, Jesse Bernal will officially come into the role of UC student regent. Although Bernal's voice will be the only one with the power to vote amongst thousands of students from 10 campuses, his voice was first heard far from earshot of any of the UC schools.

BCBGeneration: The Next Generation of Fashion at UC Irvine

"This is my generation. This is my sex appeal," a throaty voice sings while images of a model in a snug tan sweater and a tiny skirt fastened from top to bottom with silver buttons flash across my laptop's screen. It's clear within the first few minutes of this video that this isn't promoting your usual clothing brand. This is BCBGeneration, a brand-new line that's the hipper, younger sister to Max Azria's well-known BCBGMAXAZRIA label. BCBG, an acronym for the French slang saying, "bon chic, bon genre," ("good style, good attitude" in English), was founded in 1989 by Max Azria and is currently based in Vernon, CA.

Procrastinators Unite Tomorrow

In the words of one of this country's founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, "You may delay, but time will not." This truism indicates that while life continues to move forward, with humanity making significant progress in various fields with each passing day, one issue perpetually looms over our heads. Halting advancement and stifling productivity is none other than procrastination.

From Demons to Damon: Hollywood Blockbusters Filmed at UC Irvine

From epic breakups to unbelievably bad campus food, doesn't it sometimes seem like we, as college students, are living in a movie?

Vietnamese Come to the Screen

On the surface, an amateur rugby player, an aspiring college student and a hitman may not have a lot in common. One could blow a game play, one may blow his chance to get into college and the last might just blow your head off. Yet these different roles represent the diverse spectrum of protagonists whose stories were told at the fourth edition of the Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF).

Dramedies: Sacrificing Humor in the Name of Drama

Shapan: Comedies are being churned out all the time in modern cinema, and why not? Laughter, after all, is the best medicine. Nowadays, it's tough to find a comedy that doesn't include at least one of the actors from the popular "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy." Of course, that film had little intellectual purpose, but it was the perfect laugh. Memorable characters, hilarious jokes and a story you didn't have to worry about keeping up with. Good times, right? Wrong.

UCI Equestrian Team Gallops into its First Taste of Action

In its first competitive year the UC Irvine Equestrian Team ranked 10th in Zone 8, Region 2 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. However, more exciting than the team's placement was the journey getting there.

Peter the Anteater is Way Good at Expressing Himself. Listen Up

I am the voice of our Anteater, because all he can do is say ZOT. This is my "conversation" with Peter the Anteater.

Shaeffer Turning Some Heads

Take one look at freshman Ronnie Shaeffer and the only thing sign that he plays baseball might be some form of UC Irvine baseball gear he is wearing. When he tells you he plays baseball, your first guess at his position will most certainly be pitcher. His 6-foot-2-inch, 195 pound frame suggests it.
