45-year-old Anthony Rauda was convicted for murdering Irvine resident Tristan Beaudette on May 26.

Beaudette was a scientist and a father of two. Following the incident, Rauda was charged with several felony counts.

During his hearing, Rauda was additionally convicted with multiple burglaries and three counts of attempted murder. Two out of the three attempted murder charges were placed on Rauda due to the fact that he had shot in the same direction where Beaudette’s two daughters were.  Additionally, Rauda’s third charge was in relation to a previous incident during which he had shot at Irvine resident Ian Kincaid, just days before murdering Beaudette.

According to ABC 7, Rauda has been convicted for gun violence crimes since 2006. The history of Rauda’s assaults can be traced back to 2016 where he allegedly wounded a man sleeping in a hammock in Malibu State Park. Rauda also opened fired at a vehicle rest area at the same state park a week later. Rauda was later charged for shooting at multiple vehicles several times in 2017.

Rauda was arrested in 2018 and sent to Men’s Central Jail in Orange County. During his detention, he allegedly attacked a female sheriff’s deputy with a pencil. Two weeks later, Rauda allegedly attempted to attack a male sheriff’s deputy by hitting him on his lower jaw.

In January 2019, Rauda was charged with 10 counts of attempted murder, two of which included the assaults committed during his detention at Men’s Central Jail.

Following the release of murder charges on June 22, 2018, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department claimed that they had incriminated Rauda “as being responsible for a series of armed burglaries, multiple shooting incidents, and the murder of Tristan Beaudette.”

Since Rauda’s arrest in 2018, no similar crimes have been reported in the Malibu area. LA and Malibu authorities describe the actions of Rauda as a “crime spree” conducted by a single individual. According to FOX 11, the prosecutor told jurors that Rauda has a “pattern of stalking and preying on campers” when committing the crimes he is accused of.

According to the LA Times, Tristan Beaudette is the last of the 11 people who Rauda is accused of firing at. LA County Deputy District Attorney Antonella Nistorescu mentioned that “His youngest daughter’s leggings were covered in her father’s blood when she kneeled next to him after the shooting,” as reported by FOX 11

Rauda refused to personally appear at any court hearings and trials. According to the LA Times, he is very likely to spend the rest of his life in jail after his coming sentence on the murder of Beaudette in June. Deng Liu is a City News Intern for the spring 2023 quarter.
